Yes, your mother was right
Sometimes, despite your best game face, you have to agree with your mother.
Things my mother was right about:
- A sign of growing up is not keeping your shoes under the bed but putting them away in a closet.
- Ironing does make a difference.
- Sending a thank you note is important
- Striking up a conversation with people she wants you to meet because ‘you’re sure to be fast friends’ is sometimes true.
- Using family connections, no matter how tenuous, (i.e. - her childhood friend’s boss) can make or break your chances of achieving certain important objectives.
- Beautiful bed and table linens can make you happy.
- Rough elbows and heels are unattractive.
- Hostess gifts are a sign of good breeding.
- Dressing the part is 50% of achieving the goal.
- Pleasant, pretty and persistent people get ahead faster.
- Yes, she should have made you go away to school.
- And , I’ll admit, sometimes the maximum, works better than the minimum.
- LATE EDITION (see post from 2 pm) Always buy well fitting shoes.
