Yes, your mother was right

Sometimes, despite your best game face, you have to agree with your mother.

Things my mother was right about:

  1. A sign of growing up is not keeping your shoes under the bed but putting them away in a closet.
  2. Ironing does make a difference.
  3. Sending a thank you note is important
  4. Striking up a conversation with people she wants you to meet because ‘you’re sure to be fast friends’ is sometimes true.
  5. Using family connections, no matter how tenuous, (i.e. - her childhood friend’s boss) can make or break your chances of achieving certain important objectives.
  6. Beautiful bed and table linens can make you happy.
  7. Rough elbows and heels are unattractive.
  8. Hostess gifts are a sign of good breeding.
  9. Dressing the part is 50% of achieving the goal.
  10. Pleasant, pretty and persistent people get ahead faster.
  11. Yes, she should have made you go away to school.
  12. And , I’ll admit, sometimes the maximum, works better than the minimum.

  13. LATE EDITION (see post from 2 pm) Always buy well fitting shoes.
